Search Tips

Important Notice: The Keyword Search search engine searches the entire contents of the KCDL database. It does not search the curriculum documents available from the issuing agencies that are posted on this site as PDF files. Additionally, please note that you may not combine the Full Text search engine with the Advanced Search engine.

A few simple rules to follow when searching kcdlonline:
A phrase must be enclosed in double quotes (for example, "special education"). Keyword searches are always case-insensitive. A word or phrase must match exactly.
You can list multiple words and phrases connected by And, Or, or And Not. The following search : "united states" And history would match all the following:

  • United States and History
  • United States, History
  • United States History
You can append an asterisk (*) to any word or phrase, enclosed in double quotes, to match all words or phrases that begin with the special prefix. For example,"adult*"
matches "Adult Basic Education", "Adult Education", "Adult Literacy", "Adult Programs", and "Adult Students." With a phrase, the asterisk (*) applies to all words in the phrase.

How do I make my searches more effective?
Use at least two or three search terms. By using more keywords to narrow your search, you can locate documents that fit your information needs more precisely. Be specific. Try to pick words that are unique to the topic you're investigating.
